Halloween Clearance Haul

Yesterday we popped into PetSmart to look for unnecessary things for Athena such as more treats (like 10 extra bags on hand is not enough), a new stuffy (because somebody doesn't know how to be gentle), and various other things.

We came across the Halloween clearance section which was filled with tons of unnecessary items (so of course we looked) for 75% off the marked price.  As we looked through the section, B and I decided that much of the clearance items were actually VERY necessary at 75% off.

1. Costumes as dog coats

Of course the clearance section was filled with dog costumes in all sorts of styles and sizes, many of which are made of warm fleece material like the turtle, monkey, hippo, penguin, and lion costumes.  It all of a sudden dawned on us-- so what if these are Halloween costumes?!  They can double as SUPER cute and warm winter coats!  All of the animal costumes were also equipped with hoods which is something that we wish Athena's favorite purple jacket had.  The costumes also attach to a dog's body much like many dog coats, with a velcro strap under the belly and one around the neck for easy on and off.

I'm a lion!  RAWWWWRR!
We purchased a lion and a monkey costume to add to Athena's winter wardrobe.  $4 for a dog winter coat?!  I don't think there's anything out there that can beat that price.

Lion costume- $16.99 $4.00
Monkey costume- $16.99 $4.00

Just monkeying around!
Do I make a good lion?

2. Toys to destroy

Dog toys can cost a pretty penny, especially ones that are considered "tough" and meant for power chewers.  We have been on the hunt for stuffies that don't actually have any stuffing inside because Athena likes to "kill" her stuffies the minute she gets ahold of them.

The Halloween clearance section at PetSmart was filled with Halloween themed stuffed (and not stuffed) toys all for only $2-$3 each.  That's a pretty good price for toys that will probably be ruined in a matter of days (or maybe we will discover an indestructible toy in the bunch?)!

Soooo many toys to destroy!
We picked up quite a few new toys for Athena that we won't be too upset about if she ruins (she already ruined one though...but I'm not even an ounce upset about it!).

It's ok that I eat this beaver, right mom?
I have decided that it will now be my mission to hit up PetSmart the day after every holiday in search of unnecessary items that I can turn into something very necessary!  So what are you waiting for?  RUN to PetSmart for these amazing deals!  We only spent $20 on all of the amazing things above!

  2. I now need to check out PetSmart (online, probably, since my local store is 40 minutes away) and try to get some of these awesome deals ourselves! The only problem would be with getting costumes as coats. I wouldn't know what size Koira needs. What size did you need for Athena?

    1. Good idea to check out the clearance stuff on the PetSmart website! The monkey costume is a size XL and it is probably just a tad bit too small length wise (they didn't have it in a larger size at the store). The lion costume is a XXL and seems a smidge too big, but I like that it covers her entire body!

    2. Wow, way bigger sizes than I thought they would be based on their online sizing thing. How much does Athena weigh? I though for some reason that she is a pretty little girl. Koira is 42 pounds.

    3. Yeah I was surprised she needed that big of sizes! Athena weighs 48 lbs and is very petite!

    4. Well we ordered some costumes to use as coats! Three of the five we chose were out of stock, though, so I don't know when they will be shipping. We found an adorable penguin one that I think will be awesome for Christmas/Winter time in general!

    1. Don't be fooled by the lion costume...there's actually a hardcore duck hiding under there who loves to destroy beavers ;)

  7. "Indestructible" and "tough" toys usually seem to be destroyed the most quickly! Hope there's a good one in the bunch.

    1. This makes me so sad!!!!!!

After writing this post we went to 2 other PetSmarts in our area and only one of the two had Halloween clearance. They said that it sold out very fast!
