Love It: Stank Proof Collar

Athena's collar collection has recently expanded.  Not only does she have her stylish custom collars made by Sirius Republic, her Oregon Ducks collar to represent her parent's alma mater, as well as a couple of other odds and ends collars for various occasions, but she recently got a brand new collar.  A girl can never have too many collars, right?

We decided to invest in a stank proof collar after one of Athena's collars was terribly ruined at daycare (meaning that the stank was never going to come out no matter what cleaning methods we tried).  I'm not sure if she rolled in a pile of poo, or a dog peed right on her neck, but that collar had quite the stench to it after only one day of daycare.

Not only did we want a stank proof collar for odor control, but we also wanted something that we wouldn't have to worry about getting ruined at the park or at daycare and that could be easily cleaned.  We were drawn to the Ruffwear Headwater Collar while at one of our favorite local pet shops.

Not only is Ruffwear a company local to Oregon, but they make AMAZING products.  We own and love the Approach Pack as well as the Flat Out Leash both made by Ruffwear.  The quality of Ruffwear products is very impressive, so it's no wonder that we decided to purchase one of their well-made collars to serve as Athena's daycare and park stank-proof collar.

What's great about the Headwater Collar is that aside from being stink proof, it is also waterproof (for all of that Portland rain).  It also has a reflective pattern on it for visibility (during all of those cloudy Portland days).  I'm sure it would also be a great collar for any dog who spends time in the water or rolling in the mud.

What kind of stank-proof collar do your dogs wear?

  1. We looove all our Ruffwear gear! We don't have any of their collars - well we don't have stank-proof ones either for that matter (although, I'm pretty sure we should).

And no, you can NEVER have too many collars!!

  2. Trinity wears Dublin Dog no stink collar we bought off Amazon (I'm totally obsessed with Amazon!). I call it her 'bathing suit'. I might need to get her another one for this summer considering how much she likes to swim. I like them cause its waterproof & a double bar buckle collar. I get nervous with the quick release ones I always think they are gonna come off if she pulls hard. But the swimming collar is only used for swimming so I think this collar would be fine for her. I might have to check them out!

  4. I'm kind of sentimental about collars and our pups wear the now tattered leather skull collars we gave them when they first joined our family. We wear different martingales, etc, but their collar is the one thing that stays. Luckily, it doesn't stink.

  7. SOOO cute! I love the reflective part. :-) Maggie and Nigel both have daycare collars that are the cheapie Petsmart $8 ones. That way, we don't really care if they get eaten or dirty (which they do...ewwww).

  8. Hank has a couple of collars...I found his first collar the other day when I was cleaning out his bin of stuff, it made me want to cry. The current one that we love is Cabela's All Weather Collar, the material mimics leather but is waterproof. He recently broke the buckle on his Realtree collar but I think I might have found a replacement that I love for his camo one. Collars are like shoes, a girl can never have to many.

  9. We've got a couple of leather collars that have been used since day one and various others but my favorites are blind Hiker's with it's peace symbols, hearts and smiley faces. That's what she is all about - peace, love and happiness! My other favorites are worn by blind and partly deaf Brook and deaf Azule, they both have "Live, Love, Rescue" collars.

Athena, did your Chuck-it ball shrink back to normal size?!

    1. Athena would like you to know that there is magic happening all of the time at our house. One minute she has a gigantic ChuckIt ball and then the next minute it's small again! She thinks it's amazing!

  10. We need to get Toby a collar like that for swimming! I'm so glad you posted this.

Toby's daycare uses the petsafe collars (made by Premier.) We've been wanting to get one for playdates and dog park trips. Not stank-proof at all, though!

  11. Surprisingly our pups have one collar at a time and when that one goes out they just get a new one! Maybe that needs to change. :) We've never had stanky collars, but we the Sirius Republic fabric-covered collars have had short lives due to play, rolling and scratching.
From looking at picturs I think Athena may be truly one of the luckiest, happiest pups in all the world.
