Love It: Leanlix

Sometimes I feel like I need to carry a doggie diaper bag when we take Athena out for a walk.  With the poop bags, Spray Shield, treats, hand sanitizer, cell phone, house key, flashlight, and not to mention the dog itself, there's a lot to juggle.

Treats are something that we never leave the house without when going out for a walk because we are always working on training with Athena.  Sometimes we use our OllyDog Treat Bags to store treats in, or if I'm lazy, I just stuff treats in the front pocket of my purse.  However, it can sometimes be a bit inconvenient to riffle through my treat bag (the magnetic snap gets in the way of opening the bag) or purse (it's usually so stuffed that it's hard to reach in the pocket) with one hand to pull out a treat.

We recently found a treat that has solved the walking treat debacle.  It's called a Leanlix.  This low calorie chapstick tube of a treat is so genius that I'm a little jealous I didn't think of the idea myself!  Instead of pulling treat after treat out of a bag, I simply carry the Leanlix in my right hand (with the cap off) and hold Athena's leash in my left hand.  Whenever it's time to treat Athena for something such as a "heel" at the corner or a good "leave it" as we pass a barking dog, I simply give her a couple of licks of her Leanlix and she's good to go.

I purchased the Leanlix at one of our favorite local pet stores, Personal Beast, for only $11.  Yes, that's more expensive than a typical bag of training treats, but this thing lasts a loooooong time!  The Leanlix sticks come in six different flavors (fish, bbq steak, hot dog, turkey, strawberry, and raspberry/vanilla).  We first bought the turkey flavor called Dishwasher Diner and then couldn't resist buying a second in the One and Only Strawberry flavor.  Athena loves both, but she is a bit more partial to her turkey stick and sometimes tries to get her little front teeth in on the action because it's just so yummy.

Another added bonus is that the Leanlix company is located just a short distance away from us in Seattle, Washington and the sticks are sold all over the country and online (check their website for a list of retailers).  Not only does the Leanlix work great out on our walks, but we have used it during obedience training classes and at our most recent RespectaBulls walk.

What are some ways that you manage all of your doggie essentials (treats, poop bags, dog, etc.) while out on a walk?

  1. We had heard about this licking sticks and we were interested in hearing more about how real-life people did use them, so thanks!
Yes, we do need to carry a city dog bag (my Dad did call it my diaper bag), but it just makes sense when we're out and about and walking. \
Actually....we have several packed bags depending on what we're doing: http://pittiesincity.blogspot.com/2012/03/city-dog-packing-city-dog-essentials.html

  2. That looks like a good one. I have the Lick-its for my dogs (I like the cat size one, it fits in a pocket easier). Koira likes them, but Pallo doesn't seem to like the flavor, I wonder if he would like this thing better.

  4. We had bought a competitors product that was very similar, but you know, I started worrying about germs. You can't really clean it, and you just keep recapping it. What do you think of yours in that area? Can you clean it off and keep it germ free?

    1. I never really thought about the germ thing....but, I guess I think of it just like human chapstick in a way. We just recap chapstick over and over, and we ingest most of it that we put on anyways. =)

  5. I'm going to check it out. I carry a "dog walking bag" as well. It has a place for cell, keys and treats and my poop bags clip onto the outside in a nice little dispenser. http://www.holistickibble.com/earth-rated-poop-bag-dispenser/

  6. I have to carry so much stuff on walks that I am considering getting a fanny pack. I'm hoping that it will look hipster-chic and not granny-lame.

I am totally going to try some of that Leanlix though. I wonder if it is sold anywhere in KC?

  7. For walks I love my Outward hound treat and training bag. It's small but it fits poo bags, my cell phone, keys, treats and I can even jam in some pet corrector spray if I'm walking a dog who needs it. I'm not sure if they sell the exact one I have but it seems like they are selling this style now.

And Leanlix...oh my goodness. I need to get the flavor Cupcake on the Counter just because that's an awesome name!

  8. Such a fantastic concept! For those who are trying to save money (or even just cheap like me :) ), a similar alternative is to buy a little travel shampoo / squeezy bottle from CVS or Duane Reade and fill it with peanut butter, canned pumpkin or other gooey things. Same concept. Convenient to use, refillable, mess free and you can choose your dog's FAVORITE thing (pureed turkey sausage and sweet potato). I've found some great silicon options at CVS for $2.99 and keep them stashed everywhere. Leanlix sounds soooo much easier, but this certainly works in a pinch.

I'm also in the middle of sewing myself a super-dorky belt / fanny pack for our walks, but I might be too embarrassed to actually use it. Rebecca and Eleanor

  9. I use a servers apron for walks and training. Simple two pouches, one for keys and phone, one for treats and clicker. I also use a silicone travel shampoo bottle filled with blended tuna and yogurt but the issue is it needs to be refrigerated so it gets a little inconvenient. These seems more travel friendly.

  14. In simple words this website is great, all information is very useful. It's time to buy a new monitor if your current one is flickering more frequently than you would like. If your graphics card is running an outdated driver, you should update it with the most recent version via Windows Update or the manufacturer's website. To know more about Monitor Flickering read this article.
